Mid-December I had the great pleasure of attending Apartment Therapy's monthly meet up with Jonathan Adler as the guest. (Yes people, I realize it is now February and this is old news, but I just had a baby so cut me some slack, will ya?) It was a packed house, more people than I had ever seen in the year that I've been going to these things. We got there a tad bit late and had to somewhat uncomfortably maneuver our bodies and bulky chairs around the room in order to get a spot. Mi Amiga who came with me didn't know what Mr. Adler looked like and ended up pushing him out of the way with her chair - kinda like a circus ring leader - but it was all in the name of getting a good seat and I'm sure Mr. Adler didn't mind.
In pure Adler form he hilariously explained how he went from studying Art History at Brown to making pots at RISD to selling his first set to Barney's to opening stores nationwide and starting an interior design practice... As much as I loved hearing his story it all sounded too effortless, like he didn't know what he was doing, had no clear goals set out for himself and it all just landed in his lap... I find crazy success that just lands in your lap annoying but that doesn't stop me from loving his work. I could paste a million images of things that I love here so if you want to see more of his great stuff visit http://www.jonathanadler.com/
